Get Rid of Woodpeckers
Each year woodpeckers cause considerable damage to homes across the United States. It seems that they are no longer just attacking wood homes, they are now prevalent in Arizona attacking stucco as well. Getting rid of woodpeckers is not an exact science. You first should try to learn why they are and what they are doing.
Why Woodpeckers Make Holes:
- Looking for food: sometimes the woodpeckers will fly around your home "buzzing" close to the walls, they are listening for bugs in the wood siding of your home such as termites.
- Looking for a winter home: often the woodpeckers are looking for the ideal spot to bore a hole to life in during the winter months.
- Looking for a nesting area: in the spring woodpeckers will make holes to have their young in. Unfortunately the side of your home may be the safest place.
How to Get Rid of Woodpeckers
There is no sure fire solution to getting rid of woodpeckers from around your house. Once you know why they are hanging around; looking for food, looking for shelter or building a nest for young, then you can try a woodpecker control system.
Woodpecker Scare Deterrents:
If the woodpeckers have not made a hole yet, but are just drumming on the side of your home or on a tree, you can try a woodpecker scare deterrent. They work by creating an optical illusion that makes the bird uncomfortable or threatened. They will move on to a more suitable area to make a home or nest.
Woodpecker Netting:
Another method of getting rid of woodpeckers is to using woodpecker netting under the eaves of your home or business. Hang the netting from the eave and let it drap down the side of the house so that the bird can not get to the siding, or attach it to the building at a 45 degree angle low enough so you cover all of the shaded area of the wall.
