Pigeon Deterrents

Pigeons can be a problem when they decide to land, roost and nest on buildings and homes. They can cause thousands of dollars of damage and leave behind debris and droppings. Pigeon droppings can carry any of 60+ transmittable diseases.

How to Get Rid of Pigeons:

1. Do a thorough clean-up: It is important to clean away pigeon droppings and any debris such as nesting material from the area. Pigeons are attracted to their scent, and will keep returning to an area they have found attractive in the past.
2. Install a Pigeon Deterrent:  Next install some sort of pigeon deterrent.  The deterrent that you use all depends on where the pigeons are and what they are doing.
   

Bird spikes are the ideal bird control product to get rid of pigeons. They are easy to install using glue, screws or zip ties. They create an uneven landing area so that pigeons and other large birds can not land.

Where to use bird spikes:

• roof edges
• parapet walls
• window sills
• ledges
• under eaves
  
• other flat or curved surfaces

Installing bird spikes:

1. Clean the surface with a mild deterrgent or amonia and water mix.
2. Decide if it is best to use adhesive or screws on the surface spikes are to be mounted on
3. Be sure to cover the enitre surface with spikes, leaving no more than 1/2" of space, so birds can not land behind the spikes and use them as a nesting site.

Once installed, bird spikes are easily maintained. Every month or so inspect the spikes for debris such as fallen leaves, and remove it. It might even be necessary to re-glue spikes that where not properly adhered when installed.

Pigeons can be more than just a pest, they can be a health issue.  Often pigeons are found in warehouses, airline hangars, big box stores and other open areas.  They will land on exposed ledges, girders and other surfaces, leaving behind droppings and other debris.  Bird droppings can be very acidic and carry any of over 60 diseases.  When pigeons decide to live in a building they can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage to product, planes and even building material.

Why Use Bird Netting to Get Rid of Pigeons?

• It is the only bird control product that completely excludes the pigeons for unwanted areas
• It is easily maintained and does not interfer with the building asthetics
• Once installed, pigeons can not get in
• Saves money on clean-up costs, maintenance and inventory damage

It is best to have bird netting installed by a professional installer.  If not done correctly, bird net can be ineffective at keeping the pest pigeons away.
