What is a Bird Spike?

Bird Spikes sound like they would be an inhumane way to get rid of birds, but actually they are not.  Bird spikes are usually made of plastic or stainless steel.  The are strips with "spikes" coming out of them.  These spike strips make it impossible for pest birds like pigeons and sea gulls to land or roost on buildings and other flat surfaces.

Why Use Bird Spikes?

Bird spikes are an affordable sollution to pigeon problems.  Pigeons that are landing and roosting on roof edges, ledges and other flat surfaces will not be able to land once bird spikes are installed.  It is best to cover the entire surface with spikes, if you give pigeons and inch they will use the spikes as a nesting area.  Affordable and longlasting, bird spikes are also easy to install, simply screw them down or use adhesive to attach them to the affected surface.

Plastic Bird Spikes

Plastic bird spikes are often considered the most affordable bird control devise on the market.  The are less expensive than their counterpar the stainless steel bird spike and easy to install.  Installing plastic bird spikes can be as easy as glueing or screwing them onto the surface to be treated.  The plastic spikes are usually manufactured with a U.V. resistant polycarbonate plastic, that makes them rigid and long lasting.  Some plastic bird spikes carry a 5-year guarantee.

Plastic bird spikes are used to keep large birds such as pigeons and seagulls off of roofs, ledges and other flat surfaces.  It is best to cover the entire area with bird spikes, not giving the pest birds even an inch to land.

Got Pigeons?

When pigeons are a problem, an ideal way to get rid of them is to install bird spikes. Pigeons like to land and roost on high spots like roof edges and peeks, high ledges and window sills. One of the best and most affordable way to get rid of pigeons is to install bird spikes. The bird spikes are 1 or 2 foot stipes with spikes sticking out that make it impossible for pigeons to land.

Installing the bird spikes is easy. First clean and disinfect the area to be treated. Make sure all debri is gone. Use screws or adhesive to apply the spikes to the surface, in some instances you may want to use both. Be sure that the entire surface plus about 1/2 inch of overhang is covered. Do not leave pigeons even an inch to land; they will take it and use the spikes as nesting areas. Once installed the pigeons no longer have a place to land and roost and will move on to another area.
